Prevacid

A generic drug is one which is manufactured and marketed without patent protection. Prevacid is one of the generic drugs available in the USA. Prevacid capsules are available as generic drugs but the Solutab and powder are available as brand names only. The OTC version of Prevacid is PREVACID 24 hr.

Prevacid generic is used to treat a number of conditions including gastro esophageal reflux disease, Helicobacter pylori infections, Zollinger Ellison Syndrome, gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also used in the treatment of heartburn.

Generic Prevacid is available as capsules with strengths of 15 and 30 mg.

The drug interactions of Prevacid are less. However it should be used with caution when you are taking ampicillin, warfarin, atazanavir, digoxin, cilostazol, theophylline, azole antifungal like ketaconazole and itraconazole. You should consult your doctor before taking Prevacid if you are taking any of the above drugs for it may delay the absorption of certain drugs or increase the absorption of certain drugs which may prove hazardous to your health.

Prevacid is generally given as once or twice daily. If you miss a dose you may take as soon as you remember. However if it is almost the time of the next dose you need not double the dose.

The side effects of Prevacid include headache, dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps, constipation, diarrhea etc. Severe side effects include difficulty in breathing and other neurological symptoms. If any severe symptoms appear the drug should be discontinued and should consult a physician immediately.

Generic Prevacid is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Sandoz, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Reddy’s laboratories, Zydus Cadila and Cipla. It is available as Prevacid, Lanzol 15 and 30mg capsule, Lanzec 15 and 30mg capsule.

Prevacid should be stored in a clean, hygienic, dry and cool place away from sunlight and children.
