RACK OFF
Literally & metaphorically; Rack Off!
Rack Off is a relief print I created using a wood block. The print is a comment of feminism and how women are treated. A reference to the 60’s bra burning in protest and a “Rack off” to all the unfair expectations of women.
THE PROCESS
First step was deciding on the image to create and the text to accompany:
The skeleton because the bottom line is we are all skeletons and no-one should be objectified because of their gender, race, or appearance. A big old finger to all the expectations and inequality and the bra off as a symbol of taking back the power and no longer sitting back and giving into these expectations.
The text a light hearted humorous double meaning; metaphorically and literally, rack off.
After coming up with the idea and meaning behind it all, it came time to design and create this poster. I created it in Illustrator and converted to outlines, I then took it to the laser printer and got a wood cut out of my design. I glued all the bits in place and waala, we have a print block.
Multiple trials on different papers, using different coloured inks and we have our final. I really enjoyed getting my hands stuck into this project. I was able to learn at each step and get my hands dirty physically rolling and pressing ink.
